Indie Game Marketing Budget: What Each Line Costs in 2026
October 25, 2026What an Indie Game Press Kit Needs, With Three Real Examples
A press kit is one web page that lets a journalist or a creator cover your game without emailing you first. It holds a description they can paste, a fact sheet, a trailer, key art and screenshots they can download, your links, a named press contact and a clear way to get a key. Anything missing means an email and a wait before they can write a line. Below is what each part needs, the image sizes Steam already makes you produce, and three complete press kits on IndiePump.space you can copy from.
What goes in a press kit
A description they can paste
Write it twice. One sentence that says what the player does, and one paragraph of 80 to 120 words that adds the setting and the hook. Use the third person, because writers paste it into their own copy, and leave out superlatives they would have to delete.
A fact sheet
The fact sheet answers the questions a writer checks before publishing. List the title, developer, publisher, release date or window, genres, platforms, Steam app ID, press contact and the address of the press kit itself. Add the launch price once it is set. Keep every value identical to your Steam page: a writer who finds two different release dates has to stop and ask which one is right.
A trailer
Link the YouTube upload and give the embed code. Creators who edit their own videos also want the file itself, so add a download link to the full-quality version.
Key art, logo and screenshots
You already make most of this for Steam. Use the same files, and add a logo on a transparent background and one piece of key art without any text on it, so writers can crop it.

Steam’s asset sizes, reuse them in the press kit
- Header capsule: 920 x 430 px
- Main capsule: 1232 x 706 px
- Vertical capsule: 748 x 896 px
- Small capsule: 462 x 174 px
- Screenshots: at least 5, 1920 x 1080 minimum, 16:9
Steam’s rules carry over well: screenshots show gameplay only, with no awards or marketing copy on them, and capsules carry no text beyond the game’s title. Source: Steamworks, Store Graphical Assets.
Links
Steam page first, then Discord, your social accounts and your website. The store page is the link a writer puts in the article.
A press contact and a way to get a key
Name a real person and an address someone reads every day. Then say how a writer gets a key. Never post keys on the page itself: Valve’s Steam Keys documentation warns that fraudsters pose as journalists to collect keys and resell them. A request you can check, from an address you can match to a channel or an outlet, is the safer route.
Worth adding
- A short list of reasons to cover the game: the hook, the release status, whether you give interviews.
- Awards and festival selections, with the year.
- Two or three lines about the studio: where you are, how many people, what you made before.
- Credits, at least for the core team, so writers spell names right.
How a press kit page on IndiePump.space is laid out
Every game on IndiePump.space gets a free press kit page, and on 20 October 2026, 234 games had one. Open any of them and the page runs in this order:
- The header: title, studio, genre tags and platform, with buttons to download the press kit, view the game on Steam, watch the trailer or copy the page link.
- About the game: the short description, with a copy button.
- Widget: embed code so a site can show the game.
- Why select the game: a few short reasons to cover it, such as “Playable demo” or “Dev interviews”.
- Trailer and Steam: the trailer embed and the Steam store widget.
- Key art: the header image with a direct download link.
- Fact sheet: title, developer, publisher, release, genres, platforms, Steam app ID, press contact and press kit page, each row with its own copy button.
- Links: the Steam store, the press kit folder and the studio’s channels.
- Ask for a key: the route for creators, plus social media images in a desktop and a mobile size and more games in the same genre.
The key request works the other way round from cold outreach. A creator signs in, says who they are and where they would cover the game, and the developer decides. The creator is told either way. More than 300 content creators are on the platform, and our guide on getting streamers to play your indie game covers the outreach you still do yourself.
Three complete press kits to copy from
Seekers Alliance: Hero’s Journey by Skvader Entertainment came out on Steam on 21 September 2026. Its reasons to cover the game read like a writer’s checklist: out now, review keys, dev interviews, trailer ready. The fact sheet has a named press contact, and the links run from Steam and a Google Drive press folder to Linktree, X, Facebook, Instagram and Discord.
Isekai Rift by HyperInfinity Productions has been in Early Access on Steam since 27 September 2026. Every fact sheet row is filled in, the trailer is embedded, and the links include a press kit folder, Linktree and TikTok, so a creator can see how the game moves before asking for a key.
Luminids by Luminids Studios is not out yet and was in beta access on IndiePump.space. The press kit still has everything a writer needs: the description, the trailer, key art, a press contact, and links to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Discord.
All three press kits had keys for creators on 20 October 2026, so a writer who likes what they read can ask for a copy from the same page.

Five mistakes that cost you coverage

Check your own press kit in a private window
- A download folder that asks for access. If a Google Drive folder is not set to “anyone with the link”, every writer has to request it, and you have to be awake to approve it.
- Screenshots from an old build. If the game looks different now, writers end up publishing pictures of a version nobody can buy.
- Facts that disagree with Steam. Check the release date, the price and the platforms against your store page every time one changes.
- One huge zip and nothing else. Offer single files too, so a writer who needs one image does not download everything.
- A contact form instead of a person. Give a named address that a writer can reply to from their own inbox.
Where to host it
A page on your own website works, as long as it stays up to date and every file downloads without a sign-in. presskit(), the free tool Rami Ismail of Vlambeer made, builds a press kit page on your own server, installed by uploading a single file (presskit() on GitHub). Or you can create a press kit on IndiePump.space for free, fill in the same fields once, and let creators request keys from it.
