Steam Curator Connect: How to Send Copies That Get Played
October 28, 2026Steam Capsule Art: Sizes, Rules and What Gets Clicks
Steam asks for four store capsules: a header capsule of 920 x 430, a small capsule of 462 x 174, a main capsule of 1232 x 706 and a vertical capsule of 748 x 896. These are the larger sizes Steam started accepting in August 2024, and the Steamworks graphical assets page says the old dimensions are no longer accepted. On a base capsule you may show game artwork, the game name and an official subtitle, and nothing else. Below you will find every size and rule as the documentation states them today, and the checks worth running before a capsule goes live.
Every size Steam asks for

Capsule and library sizes, October 2026
- Header capsule, 920 x 430: top of the store page, Recommended For You, Big Picture and Daily Deals. Steam makes smaller versions from it.
- Small capsule, 462 x 174: search results, top sellers and new releases. Steam generates 120 x 45 and 184 x 69 versions.
- Main capsule, 1232 x 706: the big carousel at the top of the Steam home page.
- Vertical capsule, 748 x 896: the top of the front page during seasonal sales and on newer sale pages.
- Page background, 1438 x 810: optional. If you skip it, Steam builds one from your last screenshot.
- Library capsule, 600 x 900; library header, 920 x 430; library hero, 3840 x 1240; library logo, 1280 wide and/or 720 tall as a transparent PNG.
- Screenshots: at least 5, at least 1920 x 1080, in 16:9.

What a capsule may contain
The graphical asset rules have been in force since 1 September 2022. Base capsules are limited to game artwork, the game name and any official subtitle. The rules then list what is out:
- review scores of any kind, from Steam or from the press
- award names, symbols or logos
- discount copy such as “On Sale Now”
- calls to action such as “Prepurchase Now”
- anything promoting another product, including your own sequel
- any other text
A capsule that breaks these rules may have limited visibility in the store and becomes ineligible for featuring in official Steam sales and events. All capsule art, store and library, has to be PG-13 appropriate.

The one exception
Artwork Overrides, one month at a time
Text about a major update or a seasonal event is allowed only as an Artwork Override, which expires after at most one month. The text has to be localized into at least the languages your game supports, and it can only describe content players can get right now: a live update, an event, a DLC. “Wishlist now!” and “Available Oct 4th” are still not allowed.
What gets clicks: checks worth running
Valve does not publish click-through rates by art style, and we have not seen a public study we would trust. What Valve does give you is your own number. In the traffic report, an impression is counted when your capsule is drawn on someone’s screen, and click-through rate is the share of impressions that become store page visits. That is the figure your capsule is responsible for. The checks below start from Valve’s own rules.
The header capsule: title first
Valve asks for a logo that is easily legible against the background. In practice that means the title takes a large share of the frame, with a clear edge between the letters and the art behind them. A thin serif over a busy forest disappears at list size. Put the character or the moment that shows the genre next to the title, so neither covers the other.
The small capsule: the logo nearly fills it
The small capsule is the one people see in search results and lists, and Valve says the logo should “nearly fill” it and stay readable at the smallest size. Steam shrinks it to 120 x 45. Export your file at that size and look at it on a phone. If you cannot read the name, simplify the logo or drop the art. Valve also says the small capsule does not have to match your other capsules, so it can be a logo on a flat colour.
Main and vertical capsules: same rules, more room
These appear in the home page carousel and on sale pages, and follow the same text and logo rules as the header. The extra space is for art. Use it for one clear focal point, and keep the title in the same place as on the header, so people recognise the game when they see it again.
Library art: different rules
The library hero cannot include any text, and anything important, such as a face, has to sit inside a centered safe area of 860 x 380 that stays uncropped as the Steam window resizes. The library logo is the logotype alone on a transparent background. Library assets only appear once your store page is published.
Before the page goes public
Valve’s standard assets page says this artwork “generally” should not change, so do your testing before launch, not after.
- Make the 120 x 45 and the 460-wide versions and put them beside capsules from the games you compete with in your main tag.
- Show them to five people who have never seen your game and ask two questions: what is it called, and what kind of game is it.
- Check the text rules line by line against the list above. Keep festival laurels off the capsule. Valve’s screenshot rules exclude awards too, so the place for them is the text of your store page.
- Read your click-through rate in the traffic report once the page has had real traffic, and compare it again after any change to capsules, price or tags.
Screenshots follow the same idea: Valve wants them to show gameplay only, with no awards or marketing copy, and at least four marked as suitable for all ages, or the game may be left out of some areas of Steam.
We shrank the header capsules of these three games to about 160 pixels wide, and each title still reads.
